About Karel Garside

I spent my early consulting years conducting economic/fiscal impact analyses for “public assembly facilities” - think sports stadiums, convention centers and performing arts centers. During those years, I led more than 100 projects, many with development budgets in excess of $100m. I enjoyed getting to know each community’s strategic objectives, how the proposed project could contribute, and assessing the key insights that could help my clients make informed, data-driven decisions about the return on their investment. In fact, it’s been my appreciation of how the data, insights, and business decisions all come together that’s moved me forward in my career. Today, I’m a business analyst leader covering multiple sectors, assessing how emerging technologies can be used to transform companies, drive efficiencies, and disrupt industries. I lead a high performing TMT team that PwC sector leadership relies upon to understand a rapidly changing marketplace, pursue new business, and make investments. As an analyst at PwC, I spearheaded the development of a 4IR (Fourth Industrial Revolution) practice area within our group to study emerging and converging technologies. I now oversee a team of 12 analysts, data scientists and economists exploring such 4IR topics as 5G, artificial intelligence, internet of things (IoT), autonomous vehicles, blockchain, cloud, and big data analytics. Through our qualitative and quantitative findings, we’re looking at potential future states and thinking through business implications for PwC and its clients. Our new 4IR program quickly gained traction inside the firm. In 2018, I was invited to participate in PwC’s inaugural “Smart City Strategy Day” on the sidelines of the Smart City Expo and World Congress in Barcelona. I led a team assessing the smart city market and presented our findings to PwC partners from around the world. Our insights advanced PwC’s efforts to promote thought leadership and drive business development.
