ABOUT KARAN FEDER

Karan Feder is a leading authority in performance-costume history, preservation, and exhibition. She has served as a costume consultant for the famed Liberace Foundation and Museum, The Mob Museum, and David Copperfield’s International Museum and Library of the Conjuring Arts. Feder’s instrumental contribution to the development of the costume and textile collection at the Nevada State Museum-Las Vegas produced a renowned archive recognized as one of the most significant museum collections of cabaret costumes in the world. She is credited with spearheading the initiative to rescue the entire existing costume stock from Las Vegas’ legendary Folies Bergère cabaret show, which ran at the Hotel Tropicana for nearly 50 years. Karan’s research into the untold history of the American edition of the Folies Bergère musical revue was published in the groundbreaking book The Folies Bergere in Las Vegas.Karan’s preservation work with the Nevada State Museum and the Liberace Foundation afforded the historian unprecedented access to unique stage-costume archives representing the classic cabaret genre. Feder has studied, interpreted, cataloged, curated, acquired, and exhibited costumes created for the stage by many notable 20th-century designers.Feder is the author of the award-winning and best-selling book Barbie Takes the Catwalk, A Style Icon’s History in Fashion, which has been translated into multiple languages. She is the curator of the companion touring fashion exhibition titled Barbie: A Cultural Icon, 65 Years of Fashion and Inspiration.Karan Feder is a keynote speaker and public commentator specializing in fashion history, performance costume history, Las Vegas history, and Barbie doll fashion history. Feder served in an elected leadership position on the National Board of Directors at the Costume Society of America, is a member of the prestigious Costume Designers Guild, and is a voting member of the Television Academy (The Emmys).Karan Feder has authored eight publications showcasing classic entertainment culture and the fascinating heritage of performance costumes. Her current book project is in collaboration with Graceland and features the museum’s collection of stage wear worn by Elvis Presley between 1968 and 1977.
