ABOUT KARAN BABARIYA
Karan is a Senior Analytics Engineering Developer in Interac’s Data Science & Analytics group, where he builds production-grade MLOps and analytics capabilities. He leads the deployment of ML pipelines, sets up enterprise ML observability for fraud detection models, streamlines CI/CD with GitHub Actions, and productionizes models (including converting scikit-learn models to ONNX) to scale reliable decisioning. Previously at Interac’s Innovation Hub as a Research & Foresight Manager (NLP Engineer), he developed weak-signal detection system for strategy and research teams using NLP and LLMs, processing terabytes of text on Azure, and mentored cross-functional intern cohorts through Agile delivery. Before that, at Scotiabank’s AML/ATF division, he modernized the name-scanning model suite—migrating SAS workflows to Python, engineering a PySpark analytical layer, improving model accuracy to reduce false positives, and automating daily scans. Karan earned his Master of Management Analytics (2020) from the University of Toronto. Earlier, he spent 3.5 years in Siemens EDA’s R&D wing as a Full-Stack Developer, shipping high-performance enterprise features and optimizing critical workflows.
