As a Caster Operations Shift Incharge in Billet Caster, I was responsible for overseeing continuous casting operations, optimizing process parameters, and ensuring billet quality and equipment reliability. My key responsibilities included:Process Control & Optimization:Supervised billet casting sequences, ensuring optimal casting speed, mold oscillation parameters, and secondary cooling efficiency.Monitored tundish operations, ensuring steady metal flow, correct superheat levels, and minimal inclusions.Controlled mold level fluctuations, EMS (Electromagnetic Stirring), and strand withdrawal speeds to prevent surface and internal defects.Managed dummy bar insertion, strand straightening, and torch cutting operations for precise billet lengths.Quality & Defect Prevention:Analyzed billet surface and internal defects such as longitudinal cracks, center segregation, porosity, and blowholes.Ensured precise mold powder selection and distribution for optimal lubrication and heat transfer.Conducted process audits, ultrasonic testing coordination, and billet macro-etching for quality verification.Collaborated with metallurgical teams to optimize casting chemistry, deoxidation practices, and grain structure refinement.Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting:Monitored and troubleshot hydraulic systems, mold oscillation mechanisms, and segment roll alignments.Ensured lubrication and cooling system efficiency, preventing caster bearing and roll failures.Coordinated with mechanical and electrical teams for preventive and breakdown maintenance of mold assemblies, strand guides, and spray nozzles.Safety & Shift Management:Enforced safety protocols for molten metal handling, ladle-to-tundish transfer, and emergency shutdowns.Led shift operations, supervised caster operators, crane coordinators, and maintenance teams, ensuring seamless production and minimal downtime.
