ABOUT KARSTEN PETERSEN
Coming from a system administration background, developed SRE skillset while working for Google in Dublin. Made the step into management when transferring to Google in Munich and built the SRE department in this office. First built one team, then another, then started to develop techleads and new managers. Did over 200 interviews to hire engineers, project managers, and people managers. Grew my org to a dozen teams and about hundred engineers, including finding and establishing new managers-of-managers and designing teams / writing charters. Deeply involved with cross-functional office level concerns, also involved in occasional outreach efforts.Decided to take a break from management after the Covid19 years and took over a principal engineer role for tadoº, diving deep into AWS and IoT technologies. Responsible for cloud budget, drove infrastructure cost review and optimization as well as operational and oncall improvements, enabling cost-effective scaling by a factor of 2. Identified and led major infrastructure maintenance work/service modernization. Architected new product infrastructure and API.
