Incommunities is a large Yorkshire housing association with a mission to improve lives for those who live in our homes and communities. With a portfolio of over 22,600 homes and a turnover exceeding £100m, we are dedicated to addressing the UK’s housing supply challenges by developing quality homes and investing in our existing stock to create places our customers are proud to call home.As a Non-Executive Director and Group Board member, I provide strategic oversight, working with the Executive team to ensure the organisation delivers on its commitments to customers, regulators, and the Housing Ombudsman. As Senior Independent Director, I work closely with the Group Board Chair, offering support and acting as a sounding board on governance matters.In addition to my board responsibilities, I chaired the establishment of Customer Experience Committee then managed it for 2 years, overseeing a significant transformation to amplify the customer voice in decision-making and improve engagement. I have now chaired the establishment of the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Working Group, a unique new governance committee focusing on embedding EDI into the organisation’s governance and strategy.I bring leadership in Diversity & Inclusion, Safeguarding, Change Management, and Technology to enhance customer engagement and ensure that organisational decisions reflect the needs and priorities of our communities. I am also a public speaker, sharing insights on Housing and Non-Executive Director experiences at conferences and online platforms.

I’m Kanika Selvan, founder of Beetroot Consulting, the UK’s only Black female-led tech change consulting house.Beetroot is an inclusively designed, tech-first consulting house working at the intersection of technology, organisations, communities and human experience.We help organisations make human-centred technology a reality through a combination of consulting, research, community insight and specialist partnership. Our work focuses on environments where human infrastructure and technology collide, supporting organisations to navigate complex change with clarity and confidence.Beetroot’s service set brings together transformation work, values-led infrastructure and founder infrastructure, helping organisations and teams build the capability, systems and confidence needed to deliver technology and change well.We are proudly anchored in the Manchester tech community, with work that spans the UK.Beetroot is also a living organisational prototype. We are developing a Matriarchal Operating Model designed for real consulting environments; one that centres clarity, ethics and shared responsibility, while creating space to work honestly within complex transformation programmes.My role as founder is to build the consulting house, support our clients through complex technology change, and contribute to a better human experience of how technology is built, delivered and lived with.
