ABOUT SHARON KANG

I am a Registered Social Worker with a diverse background in healthcare with a strong foundation in social work assessment and rehabilitation support and hospital discharge planning. I have a wide range of skills from supporting elderly clients with dementia, to supporting children and women\'s health in various settings including hospitals, long-term care facilities, and within the community. My experience extends to facilitating workshops and presentations on mental health awareness, designing community events, and providing emotional support to patients and their families. Fluent in both English and Punjabi, I am committed to delivering culturally sensitive care while leveraging my training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mental Health First Aid, and Dementia care strategies to provide holistic support to individuals and families. Complementing my hands-on experience, I have undertaken various certifications including Cognitive Assessments, Addictions, Suicide Prevention, and Hospital Information Systems, equipping me with the tools to address diverse needs within the healthcare landscape. I am a PhD student at McMaster University, with a research focus in advocacy, race and care work. I actively contribute to creating an inclusive campus environment and am dedicated to advancing initiatives that promote diversity and equity within the field of social work. I have collaborated with McMaster University\'s Alumni and Field Manager to develop the inaugural and subsequent Social Work Symposium events focused on amplifying Black, Indigenous and racialized voices and further education beyond the classroom and provide networking within the social work field. Along with the Steering Committee members, we have presented at the National Women\'s Studies Annual Conference in Detroit Michigan. With a commitment to lifelong learning and a holistic approach to care, I am passionate about dismantling barriers and making meaningful contributions to the well-being of individuals and communities.
