ABOUT KANAKO ISHIDA MUSSELWHITE

Kanako joined the Cook County Department of Budget and Management Services in July 2015, as Budget Analyst responsible for the Circuit Court of Cook County. In August/September of 2016, Kanako also started managing Cook County\'s grants. Kanako received her MA in Social Service Administration with a concentration on policy and research from the University of Chicago in June 2012, and BA in Psychology and Sociology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2010. Kanako is skilled in collecting, managing, analyzing and presenting data in academic and publishing venues and well familiar with statistical software (e.g, SPSS, STATA and R). Prior to joining the Cook County Government, Kanako worked as Policy Research Analyst at the statewide advocacy organization Juvenile Justice Initiative, conducting various policy research to facilitate legislative strategies and develop insights in existing policies. Kanako\'s research successfully contributed to the passage of various bills such as PA99-0258 - ending automatic transfers of children ages 15 or younger and limiting those of 16-17 year olds with certain offenses. During her study at the University of Chicago, Kanako interned at Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority and the University of Chicago Crime Lab, conducting a case flow analysis of gun offense in Cook County and research on juvenile justice population, as well as assisting a cost-benefit analysis on Illinois prison programs. During her undergraduate study, she was also leading a research project to examine the association between negative emotions and decision making process, and co-authored an article in Behavioral Therapy.
