ABOUT KANAKO HASEGAWA
Kanako Hasegawa is currently working as Environmental Specialist at the World Bank ENB Middle East and North Africa. Previous to the current position, she worked for the UN Environment Programme from 2015 to January 2021. At the UN Environment Programme, she was leading the development of regional action plans on marine litter together with the Regional Seas programmes. Recently, she led the organization of the first meeting of the ad hoc open ended expert group on marine litter and microplastics. Previously, she has worked for the city council of Biscucuy, Portuguesa State, Venezuela through Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteer Program by Japan International Cooperation Agency. In Venezuela, she developed an environmental education program for the city to promote 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) and conducted more than 70 workshops targeting primary schools and community organizations. Furthermore, she has developed a pilot paper-recycling project in the city while providing technical assistance for municipal waste management. Prior to joining the environmental sector, she has worked as a system developer at Forcia Inc. She has started her career as a programmer for web-based search engine using HTML, Javascript and SQL. From the experience she has good understanding of database and website management.
