Labour and Delivery Nurse- Actively manages obstetrical births with a variety of complications and comorbidities by critically thinking, analyzing changes in maternal and fetal health and initiating appropriate interventions using hospital policies, procedures and protocols- Provides holistic, family-centered care by advocating for patients while considering the impact of the determinants of health, culture, beliefs and attitudes that can influence necessary health interventions- Coordinated Spring/Summer educational study days for my colleagues (nurses, midwives, managers and other health care professionals) touching on subjects such as hypoglycaemia, BFI, quality care, OTAS and program goals for the year- Provided mentorship for a pre-graduate nursing student by teaching and assisting with setting and achieving S.M.A.R.T goals- Prioritizes care and makes autonomous decisions in accordance with policy and procedure- Educates women and families about the various stages of labour, birth and postpartum and provides information regarding interventions, while answering patient questions using appropriate policies, procedures, community referrals and up-to-date information - Successfully works efficiently in a stressful and fast-paced environment- Collaborates with internal and external healthcare and social work professionals through effective communication, team building, negotiation and conflict management- Maintains sterility as a scrub nurse and skilled as a circulating and recovery nurse for mothers of Caesarian delivery- Initiates skin-to-skin and breastfeeding at birth for vaginal and caesarean deliveries- Provides initial postpartum care for all mother-baby dyads and provides education about community resources such as services provided by the Region of Peel and Public Health- Triages pregnant women using the OTAS scale, completing assessments, counselling, education, support and appropriate intervention through collaboration with the doctors
