Usually the moments you remember from grade school years are of your best friends or embarrassing moments, but one of my most impactful memories is of my dad setting up a video camera on a tripod and recording himself answering interview questions. He and my mom then critiqued the replay - counting “um’s”, getting the right amount of hand movement, and reminding him to stay “cool, calm and casual”. We practiced firm handshakes, eye contact and speaking confidently. I soaked it all in - from the process of preparation to the tips for professional interaction. That experience sparked an excitement about the hiring process that has stayed with me to this day. It feels magical to connect a prepared, talented person with an opportunity in which they can excel. Equally thrilling is witnessing an exceptional hire propel an organization to new heights. Bringing together those right pieces at the right time is a work which I find highly interesting and satisfying.
