Co-Teacher, Science DepartmentI work collaboratively with the members of the science team to plan, teach and assist in secondary school science coursework, with a strong focus on differentiated instruction in an Independent School setting. In addition to developing lesson plans, leading class instruction, writing progress reports, and conducting conferences with parents/guardians and relevant NYSAIS stakeholders, my work involves developing a joyful and productive learning community where students feel safe to take risks. The guiding principle of the NYSAIS member school, Stephen Gaynor School, is to provide a nurturing environment in which children with a range of learning differences, from Attention Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) to speech, language, and reading delays such as dyslexia, can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. This is an evidence-based practice which relies on data collection and qualitative assessment, for which I was trained in my graduate programs.
