ABOUT KAILYN SMITH

I am currently pursuing a dual Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University, with an anticipated graduation of May 2026. Following completion of my undergraduate degrees, I will continue at Case Western to earn my Master’s in Aerospace Engineering, expected May 2027.Through my academic and professional experiences, I have developed a strong foundation in design, analysis, and systems thinking. I previously interned at Héroux-Devtek, where I strengthened my modeling and technical drawing skills in CATIA and applied GD & T principles in a production environment. The following summer at DuPont (Aerospace division), I worked in quality engineering, developing automated systems to streamline document workflows and reduce human error. This experience deepened my interest in process optimization and engineering efficiency, as well as emphasized the need for manufacturing safety and documentation.On campus, I have been actively involved in the Women in Science and Engineering Roundtable (WISER), serving as Vice President of Special Events. In this leadership role, I organized collaborative events with other women’s organizations, led our annual Engineering Week Lightbulb Drop, and coordinated our Women’s History Month programming. I also served as a peer mentor, supporting young women entering engineering disciplines and helping foster an inclusive academic environment.Technically, I have developed experience in CAD, FEA, CFD, and programming through both coursework and team-based projects. As the Thermo/Fluid Analysis Lead for our mechanical engineering senior design project, I fully designed a liquid cooling system for a motorcycle engine, utilizing MATLAB, SolidWorks, and FEA tools to model, analyze, and optimize system performance.I am passionate about aerospace systems, thermal-fluid design, and analytical problem solving, and I am eager to contribute to innovative engineering teams tackling complex technical challenges.
