ABOUT K LAXMI NAYAK

I have always been passionate about education, transformational learning and the outcomes they have to offer. Growing up I found myself comfortable and confident to speak in front of large groups and continued to do so with great joy. I find purpose and meaning in working for a social cause such as equity, education for all. One of the major issues India is facing is lack of quality in the Education Sector and I would like to do something about it. I was an Educator in Teach For India which is one of India\'s leading Fellowship Programs. I have taught, mentored and lead Grade 3 students in a low income private School which is in an underprivileged community of Bangalore while simultaneously learning and developing leadership qualities. To attain this I have been part of several opportunities at Teach For India- As a part of Be the Change Project in Teach for India I have founded and implemented Project Good Touch which is about working with behaviorally challenged children and one of the ways of doing that is ensuring all children have access to therapy for their mental health- I have mentored and led a group of 10 Volunteers who signed up for bridging the learning gap in students : this has reduced the gap in the students\' learning by 60%- The Reading Levels of the students have increased by a level of 1.5 on an average. By the end of the year all children can read and write on their own- I have been a part of the Fellow Recruitment Committee where I worked with the team to recruit the right fit for the organization. In my 2 years with Teach For India, I have become a learner who thinks critically and operates with courage in order to problem solve. I have learnt the art of persuasion, motivation and time management.
