A space dedicated to learning about India\'s diverse indigenous knowledge, micro-cultures and heritage. The story behind: The initiative started as a personal passion project to pursue my lifelong dream of documenting stories about India\'s cultural heritage. The journey helped me gain clarity and was the foundation of what I call \'Indigeneity\' Project Indigeneity focuses on reviving indigenous knowledge and food systems of Jharkhand through the following ways:1. Indigeneity Knowledge (Research): the vertical focuses on researching the food practices, indigenous cultures and natural heritage of Jharkhand.• I was a recipient of the Early Career Researchers Programme (2024-25) organized by the International Research Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region (IRCI), Japan. I utilized my fellowship to conduct a rigorous, mentor-guided case study on Mahua, an indigenous flower-based food from Jharkhand, strengthening skills in ethnographic research, documentation, and safeguarding intangible cultural heritage.2. Indigeneity Trails (Experiences): the vertical focuses on creating cultural experiences in the form of forest walks, food workshops, and cultural heritage events• Designed \'Forest Trails and Adivasi Tales\': an immersive cultural experience focusing on indigenous foods, and cultures over 4 days in Jharkhand. The first immersion took place from 20-23 December 2025, and saw participation from researchers across India. It was conducted in close collaboration with 7+ organisations, with active involvement of 45 community members.If any of this interests you, please reach out to us!

ABOUT JYOTI SHUKLA
Jharkhand is my homeGrowing up as an Army kid meant I was always on the move - living in different parts of India, engaging with diverse communities, and learning early to live between places. Later, my work took me across national and global spaces - from international learning environments to social impact organisations, government systems, and early-stage cultural experiments. All of these experiences gave me perspective, and eventually, a reason to come back home.After nearly a decade of working across India, I returned to Jharkhand with an intention of building something rooted in what I truly value - indigenous knowledge systems, cultural practices, and community led ways of imagining the future. This work is rooted in listening, long-term relationships, and a belief that development must begin with respect, collaboration, and care. I am currently building \'Indigeneity\' focused on creating a space for indigenous cultures in Jharkhand.
