ABOUT JYL NEILSON

I am a highly experienced business improvement specialist with over 20 years’ involvement in delivering and leading continuous improvement and transformational change within organisations across various sectors. I am motivated by interesting and perplexing challenges especially as they lend themselves to, and benefit greatly from, creative problem solving tools and techniques of which I\'m a huge advocate.I initially learned my process improvement skills as a Six Sigma Green Belt at Motorola. I have been honing them ever since as a Six Sigma Black Belt then Master Black Belt within ScottishPower’s Energy Retail division and then as a Lean Six Sigma MBB within RBS Insurance and Direct Line Group.Having always had a particular interest in creativity and artistic expression (when I left school I studied architecture at the University of Strathclyde) I was thrilled to be appointed as the Innovation Programme Manager for RBS Insurance’s Claims Division in 2006. It gave me the ideal opportunity to successfully prove that creativity as an integral component of a structured innovation process can turbo-boost problem solving efforts and inject flexible thinking into business performance improvement.In 2013 I founded Sharpeye to guide and support others in their desire to instil innovative thinking and practices within their own organisations. Creating and applying new ideas and perspectives to positively challenge business practices is what I\'m about. For six years the consultancy specialised in helping organisations, teams and individuals to design creative and innovative solutions to meet their specific challenges.In 2020 Clare Reid and I founded PivotLab Ltd. PivotLab is a research-driven and inclusive innovation lab. Our approach brings together our combined four decades of research, innovation and business improvement expertise. Having worked individually in PLCs, family-owned businesses, consultancy and SMEs we now bring together best practice in a single approach.Our view is that the creative process must be grounded in evidence. We also ensure that the process of idea generation for new products and services includes the views of a diverse range of customers, staff and other stakeholders.I am contactable at J••••••••@pivotlab.uk
