WORK HISTORY
Information Security Architect @bet365
Manchester, GB
I lead security architecture at bet365, helping the business move faster without losing control in a heavily regulated, multi-jurisdiction environment. My work sits at the intersection of strategy, engineering, and governance, with a particular focus on cloud, secure software delivery, and enterprise security architecture. Own and maintain the enterprise security architecture roadmap and governance framework, protecting £3.7bn in annual revenue from regulatory-fine exposure and aligning security priorities with business objectives. Shape investment decisions across a £4m+ security budget, using security gap analyses, ROI-backed business cases and strategic technology assessments to prioritise investment against the organisation’s most material risks. Lead the shift-left security programme in partnership with the Head of Software Development, meeting PCI-DSS v4 software supply chain requirements and cutting late-stage vulnerability discovery by integrating SAST, SCA, and SBOMs into CI/CD pipelines. Oversee hybrid cloud security architecture, including Zero-Trust controls, infrastructure as code, continuous vulnerability management, and the SASE environment supporting more than users. Developed the corporate AI security policy and represent the security function on the AI Technical Board, assessing AI use cases and advising on security, data protection and regulatory risks.

ABOUT JAMES ROBERTS
For 10+ years, I’ve built programmes that prove secure doesn\'t mean slow. From cloud migrations and Zero-Trust rollouts to shift-left initiatives and “how do we use GenAI without blowing up risk.” Today, as the Information Security Architect @ bet365. I steer a £4m+ security portfolio and own the architecture roadmap. My job: turn risk into clear decisions so releases land on time and revenue stays protected. Receipts Led a user Zero-Trust SASE migration. Security that removed friction instead of adding it. Designed PCI-grade hybrid-cloud solutions that passed audits without slowing delivery. Made risk assessments mean something. Structured findings into clear priorities so leadership could act fast. AI‑Secure-by-design Wrote the corporate AI security policy and represent Security on the AI Technical Board. Built a hands-on Capture-the-Flag to train engineers on prompt-injection, model inversion, and bypass techniques. Industry impact Guest speaker on Zero-Trust at Infosec Manchester 2025. Volunteer advisor to the UK Cyber Security Council’s career-pathways platform. What Shaped Me For four years Osaka was home. There, I studied Japanese language & business, trekked remote mountain routes camera in hand, and earned both the CISSP and Microsoft Cybersecurity Architect certifications. Those lessons—adaptability, respect, and relentless curiosity—now drive my approach to security leadership. What’s Next I’m doubling down on AI security, refining Zero-Trust architectures at scale, and mentoring emerging leaders who can turn cyber risk into business momentum. If that\'s your arena too, let\'s trade stories.
