ABOUT JACOB WESLEY DELL

I aspire to help create global, technical solutions. Our challenges range from microscopic battles against cancer to the large-scale implementation of energy alternatives, and I hope to contribute to our wellbeing no matter my specialization. Global means everyone benefits, regardless of where or when or access to resources. Technical means tuned to the situation while making use of (or improving) the best techniques and technology available. Meeting these challenges requires both.Chemistry fascinated me in high school and continues to grow as my passion. The endless applications of such a foundational science propel it to the front of relevant problem-solving. I see opportunities to contribute to humanity in modern organic, inorganic, physical, biological, and computational chemistry—and all the crossover disciplines among them. My training at Dartmouth and UVA, where I\'ve had the chance to learn from some of the field\'s most engaged contributors, is equipping me to stride into whichever specialization I land on and start making a difference right away.Computer Science is a new interest for me, but as soon as I started CS classes at Dartmouth, I understood why so many of my friends are so happy to be computer nerds. Programming becomes more important every year and has applications in every modern field of study. By learning to code, I hope to equip myself to use machines better in the pursuit of understanding and leveraging the principles of chemistry.Outside of these core academic foci, I love to study French language and culture, and I spend plenty of time outside. Teaching others, including peers and younger children, how to ski, swim, and play saxophone is one of my joys and a wonderful constant in my life. I also like to engage in mentorship through undergraduate advising, peer academic tutoring, summer camp counseling, working as a teaching assistant, and Christian peer mentoring. My picture of my ideal future certainly includes snow and mountains, but if I can help further the fields of Chemistry or Computer Science anywhere, I will do my best to take that opportunity.
