The Part-time professor that teaches Adult Basic Education/High School Equivalency reports to the Director and the VP of College & Career Readiness & Holistic Student Services. The instructor is responsible for providing instruction to adult learners of varying academic levels. The instructor helps students meet necessary goals and prepares students for secondary coursework. This instructor will be responsible for assisting adult learners with acquiring the academic and workforce development skills necessary to achieve a high school equivalency diploma and to transition to post-secondary opportunities. The instructor works out of Forsyth Tech Community College.• Develop lesson plans and course materials that maximize student learning in subject matter areas: Language Arts (Reading and Writing), Social Studies, Science and Mathematics. Evaluate student progress regularly, with an emphasis on building reading and math skills to a level of high school proficiency on TABE, CASAS, or other, approved standardized assessments.• Develop lesson plans aligned to the College and Career Readiness Adult Education Content Standards.• Employ appropriate and diverse teaching and learning strategies – i.e. individual, group, hands-on and contextualized instruction as well as lecture and discussion. Incorporate instructional technology when available and appropriate.• Assist in providing academic guidance to students as needed to achieve academic and career goals.• Model an understanding of and commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy and mission.
