About Justin Westley

Software engineer passionate about building systems that push technological boundaries, from high-throughput distributed infrastructure to cutting-edge neural interfaces and wearable devices.Currently at Meta\'s CTRL-Labs within Reality Labs, I develop embedded firmware, processing libraries, and AI/ML pipelines for neural wristbands that enable gesture recognition through EMG sensors. My work spans a wide breadth and depth: on-device firmware in C, signal processing and computation libraries in C++, ML pipelines in C++/Python, and infrastructure/test automation across multiple languages.Previously, I built high-throughput, highly available distributed systems at AWS within the EC2 Core Platform, and contributed to the future of virtual assistants at Alexa Shopping delivering backend services, web applications, and React frontends using Java, Spring, Python, JavaScript, and TypeScript.I graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology (2020) with a degree in Computer Engineering and minor in Computer Science, where I participated in faculty-led research and interned at JPMorgan Chase in Corporate Investment Banking. Currently, I am taking MSCS courses at Stanford with a goal of working towards an MS in Systems Programming.

Developing embedded firmware and libraries for neural wristbands to execute machine learning models for gesture recognition through EMG (electromyography). This technology senses neural activity to turn your hands into an input device for Meta Display glasses and many future products.Creating robust testing frameworks for all steps and end-to-end processes in the digital signal processing pipeline. Working with partner ML and science teams to execute models on device, leverage all compute in the latest microprocessors, and innovate on new features, as well as improving model accuracy and measuring it more accurately. Our work was recently published in Nature and the NY Times. You can read more about this tech and the products involved on our tech blog or the emerging tech page The group is CTRL-Labs within the Reality Labs organization within Meta.
