Did you know that in 2021 there were 21,609 people within a 10-mile radius of 23322 who had been prescribed four or more antidepressants? Of those individuals, 13,82•••99%) had never seen a psychiatric provider.While antidepressants can be helpful for many, they are not always effective or well-tolerated. That’s why in 2019, the FDA approved Spravato, a ketamine (esketamine)-based nasal spray used in treatment-resistant depression. In one study, participants experienced a 15–16 point drop on the Montgomery–Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) after just one dose, showing rapid and meaningful improvement in depressive symptoms.Because Spravato is a dissociative anesthetic, it is highly regulated and must be administered at REMS-certified facilities under the Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) program. Currently, there are only two such facilities within a 10-mile radius of 23322. Transforming Minds Interventional Psychiatry (TRIP), a sister clinic to South Chesapeake Psychiatry, is proud to be one of them.At TRIP, treatment occurs in-office. Clients self-administer the medication under direct clinical supervision and are monitored for two hours afterward.
