Representing clients in a variety of disputes involving a range of issues, including:• Multiple qui tam / false claims act suits against offshore exploration and production companies in the Gulf of Mexico alleging fraudulent certification of compliance with federal leases, permits, and regulations seeking damages of over $50 billion;• Defense of allegations of underpayment of royalties both under state law and lease obligations, including suits related to deduction of post-production costs, royalty payments for natural gas liquids, and other allegations• ICC arbitration over an alleged breach of a consulting contract relating to oil and gas exploration in the Middle East;• Claims that an oilfield services company negligently supervised the installation of equipment that resulted in a downhole leak during a hydraulic fracturing operation; • Claims brought by landowners and royalty owners alleging breaches of various provisions of oil and gas leases, including failure to pay lease bonuses and cessation of production; • Property damage related to various aspects of oil and gas production activity, including hydraulic fracturing and injection wells;• Claims related to preferential rights to purchase, rights of first offers and refusals, and other standard provisions in model joint operating agreements, area of mutual interest agreements, and other standard contracts used in the oil and gas industry; • Claims of breach of fiduciary duty, aiding and abetting breaches of fiduciary duty, conspiracy, and tortious interference related to an alleged hostile takeover of a foreign subsidiary of an oilfield services company;• Interference with oil and gas exploration and production activity from surface rights owners; and • Breach of contract related to the provision of security services to an oil and gas operator in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
