Cybersecurity and AI governance executive in higher education, leading enterprise cyber strategy, institutional risk management, regulatory alignment, and responsible AI enablement.As Associate CIO for Security and AI Enablement at Barry University, I lead the university’s cybersecurity program under the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, achieving maturity level 4 in 2025. This reflects embedded, risk-based controls across administrative and academic units and alignment with FERPA, HIPAA, GLBA, GDPR, and other regulatory requirements.My role extends beyond operational security. I oversee enterprise risk governance, incident response readiness, data protection strategy, and vendor risk management while advising executive leadership on cyber risk exposure and resilience. Security is positioned as a business enabler that strengthens institutional trust and continuity.In parallel, I direct the university’s AI governance and enablement strategy. I established formal guardrails for responsible AI use, implemented approved AI tool standards, and built evaluation frameworks for AI vendors focused on transparency, data protection, and responsible model practices. I guide adoption of platforms such as Microsoft Copilot to improve productivity while safeguarding institutional data.I partner with academic leadership to align AI innovation with regulatory, ethical, and security standards, ensuring emerging technologies advance teaching, research, and student services without increasing unmanaged risk.My leadership philosophy is straightforward: embed security and AI governance into institutional strategy so innovation, compliance, and resilience advance together.
