About Justin Monito
I am currently the Deputy Chief Engineer for one of the Nation\'s first Gen IV microreactor programs. With nearly a decade of experience in the nuclear and defense industries, my career has spanned reactor operations, I&C systems design, systems engineering, and ultimately my latest role as Deputy Chief. My career has been defined by consistent advancement, expanding responsibilities, and opportunities to lead in situations where safety, quality, sound judgement, and high-pressure decision-making are key. I am routinely entrusted with high-visibility, high-impact assignments where excellence and accountability are critical to company success. My early experience qualifying as a Senior Reactor Operator on Penn State\'s TRIGA reactor gave me the opportunity to develop a deep, first-principles understanding of nuclear systems, operational decision-making, and regulatory compliance. These experiences continue to shape the full-system perspective that I bring to complex designs and issues. Transitioning into systems engineering, I built expertise across the full lifecycle of complex nuclear and defense systems—from requirements definition and architecture development through manufacturing, integration, verification, and validation. I have led multidisciplinary teams to translate regulatory, customer, and safety requirements into robust system designs, managing interfaces across mechanical, electrical, I&C, manufacturing, and licensing disciplines. Core to my success has been disciplined requirements management, configuration control, risk identification, and technical trade studies that balance safety margins, performance, cost, and schedule.Through sustained performance and demonstrated leadership, I have earned multiple promotions, leading to my current role as Deputy Chief Engineer. In this capacity, I provide technical direction and governance for safety-related components and systems, mentor engineers at multiple career stages, and serve as a key technical authority supporting design reviews, customer engagement, and regulatory interactions.
