ABOUT JUSTIN KUTYAN
I specialize in tax litigation, with extensive experience in trial advocacy. My strategic and tactical courtroom skills are essential to winning at trial or reaching favourable settlements. Having mastered the art of crafting and shaping effective defence strategies, I have been recognized for the ability to fashion novel and creative arguments and determination to push the boundaries of conventional thinking. In addition to my role at KPMG, I am a supervising lawyer in the Community Legal Aid Services Program tax clinic. I have been teaching the Tax Lawyering seminar at Osgoode Hall Law School since 2011 and guest lecturing for Taxation Law. I have been a Moot Coach for Osgoode’s Bowman Tax Moot Team. Prior to joining KPMG Law LLP, I served as Crown counsel in the Tax Law Services Section of the Department of Justice, and was subsequently in the tax litigation group at a leading national Canadian law firm. I have successfully resolved disputes involving a wide range of income tax, GST/HST, and customs issues Over the course of my career I have appeared before the Tax Court of Canada, Canadian International Trade Tribunal, Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Federal Court, and Federal Court of Appeal.
