A keen environmentalist and conservationist, Robert Jungmann has been a leader in the hemp industry since the early ‘90s. In 1993 Robert founded the outdoor clothing company Manastash while attending Central Washington University. Jungmann sold Manastash in 2005 while living in Costa Rica where he began working with natural dyes and batiking, a less common in modern-day apparel manufacturing. While on a 5 year surf trip is where and how Jungmaven was founded. Jungmaven products are made with 55% hemp blended with organic cotton, giving the shirts a softer hand and more structure. 100% hemp tees were introduced in 2012 and are available in natural dyes such as coffee, black tea, indigo, walnut, pomegranate, onion peel, red wine and creosote. Jungmann strongly believes in working with hemp for multiple reasons. Hemp is a natural fiber that’s cultivated with low impact on the environment. Hemp requires less water, no irrigation, uses no pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or GMO seeds and scrubs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. It’s one of the most durable natural fibers on the planet grown for thousands of years around the world. In 2010, Jungmaven launched the Hemp 2020 campaign to raise awareness around the positive environmental opportunities of farming industrial hemp; and we got hemp legalized. We realized our choices are more powerful and impactful on the planet and we vote every second in how we use our time and energy. As we all become more aware of the effects our choices have on the world, we shift toward a society that values health, knowledge, freedom, experiences and honesty as wealth. 2020 is the tipping point year.
