ABOUT JULLION COOPER
Undergrad: Criminal Justice Major, Philosophy and Spanish double minors.(University of Delaware) Masters: International Relations and International Economics (Johns Hopkins SAIS) My personal, professional and cultural experiences have fortified an ever-increasing passion to change the hearts and minds of people to embrace the need for social, economic and racial equality. To the extent that I can be a tool to empower disadvantaged groups and educate mainstream audiences of the importance of such efforts - count me in! I look forward to networking and becoming more involved with organizations and people dedicated to these efforts. My experiences are as diverse as my professional background and interests. I have lived in four countries across three continents and am fluent in five foreign languages (Spanish, Catalan, Chinese Mandarin, Italian and Hebrew). My time abroad and work with people from all walks of life have helped to give me an above-average knowledge of cultural sensitivities and emotional awareness. My most recent professional experience has been at the U.S. Department of State. As a Foreign Service Officer in southern China I promoted democracy, implemented immigration policy, helped build civil society in the LGBT community and beyond, and assisted U.S. citizens in China who encountered varying degrees of crises. Crisis management, case management, community building and outreach were all essential tools I needed while working with recently-released individuals from the prison system to assist with their successful re-entry to society. Helping them move beyond the stigma of having been incarcerated, empowering them to find employment, secure housing and other professional and medical services is some of the most gratifying work I have done to date. Specialties: US Criminal Justice system, Political advocacy, Community Building, Languages, International Relations, Diplomacy, Travel
