ABOUT JULISA MELÉNDEZ

Julisa Meléndez, M.A, RPA joined SEARCH in 2019 as a Project Manager with 15 years of experience in cultural resource management (CRM). Ms. Meléndez received her master’s degree in Archaeological Heritage Management from Boston University in 2005. Her thesis, Archaeological Resources Management in Puerto Rico: Problems and Prospects, explored how federal and state laws meant to protect Puerto Rico\'s cultural patrimony clash due to the complicated political relationship between the island and the United States. She has worked in the Southwest, Midwest, Great Lakes, Northeast, and Puerto Rico, and her specialties include multi-disciplinary CRM projects, project management, developing content and design for heritage tourism and public interpretation projects, and technical editing and writing. Ms. Meléndez has consulted for the Puerto Rico State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) and was recognized by the National Park Service with an Excellence in Service Award for her development of an original interpretive program at the San Juan National Historic Site. She has experience with Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and she meets the Secretary of the Interior\'s Standards for Archeology and Architectural History. She has native Spanish language fluency and has completed trainings on the NHPA Section 106 process, the integration of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and the Section 106 process, and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (DOT) cultural resources procedures.
