About Julie Souza

I am a climate science communicator interested in creating open and approachable dialogue around climate change and emotional wellbeing. I\'m interested in breaking down communication barriers for the public and local communities through community-led initiatives.I have tackled the abstractness of climate change and eco-anxiety through interdisciplinary studies at Columbia University and NYU. I am ethnographically trained through my work at NYU and the UN Millenium. I then conducted research at the nonprofit: Climate Mental Health Network where I continued the dialogue on climate science communication through mental health resource creation. I developed my skills in climate communication via fundraising initatives at the Brazilian nonprofit, Filha do Sol. I also conducted individual research and presented at the International One Health Conference in Barcelona to contribute to scientific understandings of eco-emotions in adolescence and young adults. My work as a Sustainability Production Coordinator started at Onyx Films and continues through freelance projects which informs my understanding of effective communication strategies in a creative space. I continue my work as a development coordinator at Good Grief Network where I aid the shared mission of supporting eco-distressed persons and communities in building resilience and empowerment in the face ecological and social injustice.

1. Climate Mental Health Advisor

   Aug 2024 — Present

   Advise on the programming, survey, and marketing of the Australian climate mental health focused charity Ecomind- Co-creating the first national Australian survey focused on young people\'s emotional experience regarding climate change. This survey will inform the charity\'s future offerings and how it provides support to young people across the country.
