ABOUT JULIEMMA MCLOUGHLIN

In my roles as Executive Director Environment I provide high level strategic leadership and management across a comprehensive range of environment-related services provided to the business community and public by the City Corporation. The Environment Directorate delivers a range of key frontline, strategic, policy and commercial functions, and plays a major role in making The City a better place to live, work and visit. The Environment Department is the largest and most complex in the Corporation and brings together professions from the Built Environment, Open Spaces and Port Health and Public Protection with 850 staff based at 25 locations delivering environment related front line services that include: • Construction • Planning & development • Economic development • Highways management • Cleansing, waste, recycling, and circular economy • Transportation • Environmental enhancement and public protection • Open spaces both within the City and across London and its fringes • Port Health Authority services • Emergency Planning The Environment Department also manages • 10 charities • 4,500 hectares of Open Spaces • 54 Miles of Highway • 151km of the tidal River Thames The Department is always ready to respond to the new challenges represented by a post-pandemic City, where Climate Action, quality of life and enjoyment of our heritage assets and open spaces sit alongside the underlying requirement to manage the City’s front-line services for the benefit of the business City, our residents, and the UK economy. The role is vital in maintaining the confidence of the development industry to invest in the City, through participating in the creation of buildings and in developing environments and infrastructure systems which meet the requirements of the business community, while taking account of the role’s overall responsibility for the exercise of the City Corporation’s statutory powers in relation to development in the City.
