ABOUT JULIE MUYCO

In October 2008, I received my certification as a Patent Agent from the USPTO. In March 2009, I began my journey into the wonderful world of patent drafting and prosecution as a patent agent in-house at Calera Corporation. In November of 2011, after relocating to Southern California, I joined Mintz Levin as a patent agent. It has been interesting and challenging so far, and with the changes to patent law made in the past few years, there is always something to learn. My experience post-undergraduate was initially industrial. At Sony Electronics, I was part of the engineering technology group, where we explored different processing and materials options for displays. In graduate school, I acquired knowledge of various materials science techniques as well as how to present information to different audiences. My collaborations ranged from working with scientists studying the composition of space dust, to professors exploring the mechanism of abalone shell growth as a model for armor construction, to physicists exploring the types of damage caused by laser exposure on crystals used in large national energy research projects. After graduate school, I worked as a business analyst for Active Interest Media. With AIM, I compiled reports detailing the performance of various components of the company in print and on-line media, created presentations for strategic planning and board meetings, and helped to create budget forecasts based upon historic data. At the same time, I helped to fact-check statistics for a manuscript in economics.Specialties: Knowledge of a wide range of surface chemistry techniques, including: AFM, Raman Spectroscopy, and electrochemistry; familiarity with creation of multi-media presentations; ability to use MS Excel for manipulation of large data sets; versed in web-based searching tools for scientific literature and general information; proficient knowledge of English grammar and writing styles; simple conversation skills in Swedish and French.
