ABOUT JULIE PERI
I’m a community builder, urban enthusiast, and the founder of Dykes With Drills, a nonprofit empowering queer women through hands-on building projects. My work is rooted in the belief that participation transforms individuals and communities by fostering trust, resilience, and connection. With a civil engineering degree from UC Davis and experience in urban infrastructure projects at the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, I’ve developed a deep understanding of how cities are designed and built. My work with Habitat for Humanity reinforced the importance of empowering individuals to actively shape their environments. Through Dykes With Drills, I’ve expanded this mission, leading collaborative projects like building tiny houses for youth empowerment villages and creating spaces where people feel connected and capable. I’m passionate about designing cities and spaces that prioritize people over cars, foster interdependence, and inspire belonging. From teaching kids how to use tools at Tinkering School to organizing workshops that build both skills and community, my career reflects a commitment to inclusive design and participatory practices. Currently, I’m seeking opportunities to contribute to urban planning and design projects that align with my vision for thriving, inclusive communities. Let’s connect if you share a passion for creating spaces where people and communities can truly flourish!
