ABOUT JULIE MAY

After qualifying as a nurse in 2009, I initially worked in a Coronary Care Unit at Warwick hospital and Cardiology ward before moving to Hospice Care at Myton Hospice delivering palliative care to patients with life limiting illnesses. In 2011 I started working as a Community Nurse delivering care to clients in their homes and to incorporate my palliative skills I also worked alongside the Macmillan nurses as a link nurse between GPs and the palliative nurses. Here I built upon my holistic approach to needs assessment by meeting the physical, spiritual, psychological and social needs of the individuals.In 2014 I started as the Clinical Lead/ Deputy Manager in a nursing home where I was responsible for the clinical governance, audits and quality assurance. Clinical responsibility for approximately 33 care staff. Nursing fields covering End of Life Care, Chronic Long Conditions and supporting family members. My key achievements have included the introduction and successful completion of a nutrition pilot, making the home available to research, the introduction of the homes first nursing students and implementing the Gold Standards Frsmework for Pallistive Care.In 2015 I successfully completed the NHS Leadership Academy Training which was a programmes that develops care leaders ability to influence positive change and improve experiences and outcomes for patients.
