About Julie Cornell

A lifelong journalist, writer, and reporter, with a passion for storytelling, I\'ve worked in television news for more than 30 years, evolving as the communication business changes and grows. My favorite stories include those which follow someone through a journey or transformation, and I have the honor of framing that journey and sharing it with others. It takes incredible trust for viewers to share their personal stories and I work diligently to honor the information they share. I think there are so many common themes in life that pull us together and when we share those stories, we have a better understanding of each other. My most memorable stories include following a brave man through surgery to treat his Tourette\'s Syndrome, watching a father respond to the prescription drug overdose death of his son, and seeing foster children get adopted after featuring them on channel 7. I\'ve worked on several documentaries during my career taking me from nuclear powered submarines, to operating rooms and a third world country. My favorite story is typically the one I\'m working on \"at the moment.\"

Experience

  1. Evening Anchor and Feature Reporter

    Hearst Television

Jan 1992 — Present · Omaha, NE, US

I\'m a 4:30, 6pm, 9pm and 10pm anchor at KETV, a longtime reporter and writer in Omaha. I\'m most proud of my stories shining a light on issues that might otherwise go unnoticed like a documentary on human trafficking in Omaha, and stories on the prescription drug abuse problem. In March of 2013, I traveled to South Sudan, Africa where photojournalist Andrew Ozaki and I shot a documentary on a medical mission team. The hour long program aired in May on KETV Channel 7. Mission To Africa was awarded a National Edward R. Murrow award for 2014 in the documentary category and a Heartland Regional Emmy Award.
