About Julia Plasynski
Personal account): I serve as a Fish & Wildlife Biologist for the USFWS, where I assess impacts on listed species and work with communities to protect their resources. I am incredibly passionate about my work and the people I work with! I am interested in the response of wildlife species to climate change impacts and how to best serve communities in conjunction with nature. I am dedicated to protecting the natural world and communities with research, communication, collaboration, and different worldly perspectives. I graduated in 2023 with my Master\'s of Environmental Management, focusing on Ecosystem Science and Conservation from Duke University. My Master\'s Project focused on improving Habitat Conservation Plans in the Endangered Species Act by analyzing costs, conducting stakeholder interviews/surveys, and producing a replicable R code. After graduating, I continued research with the Duke Marine Lab as a Research Assistant. This project focused on data synthesis and identifying gaps within marine science research. Before starting at the Nicholas School, I completed a ten-month service program with AmeriCorps and graduated (2020) from Washington & Jefferson College with a degree in Biology and a minor in Environmental Studies. I am experienced in diverse laboratory and fieldwork in biology, environmental science, chemistry, and physics. I have learned out of the typical classroom setting in various countries/territories: Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Costa Rica, South Africa, Senegal, Italy, Singapore, Malaysia, Puerto Rico, and St. Croix.
