ABOUT JULIAN OKOYE

Engineering Management - the challenge of the 90” This was the title of an inspirational sixth form outreach programme I attended at the University of Liverpool over 30 years ago which changed my life and set the path for my future career. Today I am a strategic business leader and chartered engineer with over 25 years’ experience of bringing people together, closing deals and delivering innovative business solutions in the water industry, renewable energy, waste management, nuclear power and electricity supply sectors. The life-defining experience I had as a sixth form student has also given me a passion for supporting and working with young people - providing them with insight, opportunities, and experience to discover the world of work. Currently responsible for the commercial positioning and development of Wessex Water’s Developer Services business it is my combination of commercial acumen and engineering expertise that has enabled me to create win-win solutions for developers wishing to connect to Wessex Water’s water supply and sewerage network. Prior to my time in Developer Services, I was part of the founding team responsible for GENeco\'s award-winning facility that transforms food waste into renewable energy and a nutrient rich fertiliser for local farms. GENeco’s facility was the first food waste recycling anaerobic digestion plant in the UK to be co-located at a sewage treatment works and was the first such facility in the UK to inject biomethane into the National Grid. Coincidental with my time at GENeco I was also responsible for managing a property search business that has been trusted by its clients to provide risk management data insight on over half a million property searches. I owe the fascinating and varied career I have enjoyed to date to the seed planted in me by the volunteers and staff at Liverpool University.By working with schools, colleges, my employer and community organisations it is a pleasure to help do the same for the next generation.Do get in touch if I can help you.
