About Julianne Plotkin

Both my academic and extracurricular experiences have sparked my interest in the politics, ethics, and humanitarian effects of artificial intelligence and data collection. At New York University\'s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, I am able to customize my major around these passions. My education includes the required classes for the computer science major in addition to politics, philosophy, and ethics courses that reinforce a passionate, unique perspective on technology and big data. My unique educational experience has fueled my passions to read data as a tool, analyzing the surrounding cultural and political values that produced it. I know the importance of questioning the motivations, collection methods, representation, profits made, and relevant missing data. With these critical factors, I strive to redirect the future of artificial intelligence and technological innovation toward a path that prioritizes and serves the individual. History has shown that data has been exploited by those in power to serve unethical agendas and limited groups of people. With my long-term goal of becoming a technology lawyer, I aim to redefine the priorities and effects of technology, so that technology is no longer a tool that profits off of discrimination but instead is seen as a promoter of inclusion, accessibility and merit.
