Year-long volunteer residency program where daily responsibilities include classroom teaching, individual tutoring, event chaperoning, coaching athletic teams, assisting with facilities set-up and other duties assigned by school administration. In this position, I oversee student volunteers at Chase’s Place, H.E.R.O.E.S. DFW, and the Ashford Rise School of Dallas. These programs teach and care for children with developmental disabilities such as Down syndrome and cerebral palsy. I train and supervise high school volunteers and act as the liaison between Jesuit and our partner organizations. I have also volunteered with other special education programs across the DFW metroplex such as the Notre Dame School of Dallas and To Be Like Me. Additionally, I plan to join Jesuit’s medical and dental service trip to Guatemala in March 2026 to provide care for rural communities near Lake Atitlán and Antigua.

ABOUT JULIAN GARCIA
Julian is a current pre-med undergraduate student at the University of Texas at Austin pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Plan II Honors. In addition to excelling at his studies, Julian is the current co-president of the UT Austin chapter of the Brain Exercise Initiative, a volunteering organization committed to assisting seniors in brain exercises to mitigate the side effects of cognitive decline, and a research assistant for the Whole Communities Whole Health project, a research study collecting data on the health habits and environment of East and South Austin. Julian has a passion for helping the underserved communities in Texas, especially Spanish-speaking populations. While working on his senior community service project in high school, Julian worked as a document translator for natural residents looking to become U.S. citizens and got to hear about the struggles and experiences of those living in the U.S. without having English fluency. Combined with his passion for healthcare and interest in the human body and diseases, he hopes to become a physician who works primarily with Spanish-speaking patients. Julian starts his gap year in May 2025 and is looking for an opportunity that requires Spanish-speaking capabilities and opportunities to communicate and interact with the Hispanic community of Texas. He is open to any field of work that provides this chance to gain more experience speaking Spanish in a professional setting.
