About Julian Borges

I am a pshysican scientist working at the intersection of clinical medicine, artificial intelligence, precision medicine and genomic science, with a focus on how data driven systems and other technologies can be safely translated into real world clinical decision making. My work centers on clinical AI governance, auditability, and deployment evaluation, rather than isolated model development. I study how AI systems behave when exposed to real patient populations, heterogeneous data, and operational constraints, and I develop conceptual and methodological frameworks that support transparency, reproducibility, and defensibility in regulated healthcare environments.I have more than 20 years of experience in medicine and translational research, with formal training in health informatics and genetic epidemiology. My academic research examines algorithmic bias, shortcut learning, and causal confounding in clinical and genomic AI models, with an emphasis on fairness, performance heterogeneity, and decision safety. This work has undergone multiple rounds of peer review and has been published in high impact venues, including JAMIA Open.In parallel with my academic work, I have contributed to initiatives at the intersection of clinical knowledge, data governance, and artificial intelligence that inform precision medicine, metabolic health, and aging related research. Across academic and applied research contexts, my contributions emphasize reproducibility, interoperability, and governance by design, supporting the transition of AI systems from experimental settings to institutionally robust deployment models. My work is inherently cross disciplinary, bridging technical teams, clinicians, executives, and governance stakeholders through research, education, and scholarly collaboration. I focus on ensuring that AI adoption is scientifically sound, ethically grounded, and operationally accountable.I am interested in senior research leadership, academic, and future executive roles at the intersection of clinical AI, governance, genomics, and digital health.
