About Julia Levy

As the Yale University Class of 2025 Astrophysics and Computer Science Double Major, I am focused on combining my interdisciplinary passion of astronomy and scientific programming. I consistently engage in service to allow everyone to reach for the stars.Currently, I am working on two senior theses to complete my Bachelor of Science requirements. For my astrophysics senior thesis, I am analyzing the stellar evolution of tidally disrupted stars (TDEs) under the mentorship of Professor Earl Bellinger. On the computational side, I am researching the merging time difference between black holes and galaxies under the mentorship of Professor Meg Urry. I have also worked on a range of projects in spectroscopy, quantum computing, simulations, machine learning, and web design. Additionally, I am a leader in scientific outreach at Yale University. I am the Founder and President of one of the largest science outreach groups on campus, the Yale Astronomical Society, serving the intersection of astronomers and astronomers at heart. I served as a TA for the Yale Summer Program in Astrophysics (YSPA) and am the Observing Assistant, Planetarium Presenter, Volunteer Stargazer, and builder of the Space Radio Telescope for the Leitner Family Observatory and Planetarium (LFOP). For my efforts, I was awarded the Yale Astronomy Department’s Public Service Award. I am a factual communicator for science. I am currently the Physics and Computer Science Staff Reporter for the Yale Daily News. I was an undergraduate learning assistant during the majority of my Yale Career, teaching classes such as Introduction to Relativity and Black Holes, Harvard’s renowned CS50 introductory programming course, and a volunteer math teacher in the New Haven community. In March, I had the honor to brief members of the U.S. Congress on space policy as a congressional delegate for the Yale Jackson School’s inaugural STEM Hill Day Program. At Yale\'s commencement, I intertwined my love of the cosmos to reflect on the growth of the Class of 2025 over our four, bright college years (with a little humor, of course). I am enthusiastic about exploring opportunities in computing, research, and outreach within aerospace, astronomy, and physics where I can contribute my scientific expertise and leadership. I aim to reach the stars. I am happy to connect to discuss potential collaborations and opportunities. Whatever comes next for me, it\'s going to be stellar!
