ABOUT JULIA CABANAS
I am Architect at Arup, passionate about integrating equitable, sustainable and conscientious design principles into my work. I have worked on a range of projects in different sectors from Science & Industry, to Transport, Cultural and Commercial. I am an Inclusion Ally at Arup, representing the Cities, Planning & Design team. I am also an educator with 3 years of experience teaching undergraduate architecture at the University of Cambridge. I also design bamboo buildings in the Philippines, co-founding Bamboo for Better in 2019 — a design practice focused on indigenous and sustainable approaches. Over the years I have worked in award-winning architecture firms in London, including Carmody Groarke, Serie Architects and DSDHA. In the past I have researched anti-racist urbanism in the context of the public school system in New York. I presented this research at the Center for Architecture (AIANY) and collaborating with a graduate studio at The Spitzer School (CUNY).
