About Julia Bush

I translate The New Yorker’s award-winning reporting for ever-changing digital platforms. Before coöperating (sorry) with the team at The New Yorker, I built a Snapchat Discover channel from scratch at WIRED, managed social accounts with millions of followers at HuffPost, and developed community-engagement strategies at local newspapers in Maine and Missouri. On my personal accounts, I publish a series about the mold I find in my fridge.

1. Deputy Director, Social and Community

   Nyt Wirecutter

   Apr 2024 — Present

   I manage a team of 15 social strategists, video producers, and community managers who tell stories on social—through videos, graphics, and more—for accounts across Wirecutter’s portfolio. As team lead, I develop and execute social strategies, driving ambitious follower growth across accounts. In less than a year, my team has doubled the @wirecutter Instagram following and grown on TikTok by more than 50 percent. I also create and hone workflows to ensure seamless collaboration with the newsroom. Our team works closely with The New York Times, NYT Cooking, and other Times properties, and I coordinate with those teams, too, to ensure Wirecutter stories are promoted widely. I also oversee our community efforts, building systems for collecting reader feedback, creating and promoting callouts to request specific reader suggestions, and engaging with folks on Reddit and beyond.
