ABOUT JULIA SIMLER

I recently graduated with a master’s degree in Biological Engineering and a graduate certificate in Biotechnology Innovation and Regulatory Science from Purdue University. My research focused on using polymerase chain reaction to predict the cluster assignment of unsequenced bacteriophages for further evolutionary insights. I also used mass spectrometry data to analyze the lipid profiles of phages throughout infection of their bacterial hosts to develop a better understanding of the phage-host interaction. These case studies will help inform potential applications of phages in several industries, including medical, pharmaceutical, and food.
