Support the work of the Development Law Service, with a focus on fisheries and aquaculture legal matters in the following activities: providing legal assistance to FAO Members, upon request, in the process of review of fisheries legislation and legal drafting of proposed regulatory changes; developing legal databases and tools, guidance documents, technical workshop reports, and magazine short articles; and participating in international meetings. Specifically, participating in capacity-building and development activities, and providing technical inputs on legal aspects of projects dedicated to the implementation of: the ecosystem approach to fisheries (EAF); Voluntary Guidelines for Sustainable Small-scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication (SSF Guidelines); Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of wild fauna and flora (CITES); Agreement on Port States Measures to prevent, deter, and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (PSMA); legal frameworks for sustainable aquaculture, combatting crimes in the fisheries sector, and promoting decent work in fisheries. Support to strengthening partnerships with the CITES Secretariat, UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). Technical contributions to the work on legal assistance to Guyana, Perú, São Tomé e Príncipe, and United Republic of Tanzania; the written statement of FAO in the Case No. 31 under the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea; the aquaculture co-management guidebook; the technical guidelines for responsible private investment in sustainable aquaculture; collaboration with UNODC for combatting crimes in the fisheries sector; collaboration with CITES Secretariat, including co-organising side events and following deliberations at CITES CoP, Standing Committee, Animals Committee, and relevant working groups.
