North Carolina Resilient Coastal Communities Program (RCCP)- 2022 & 2024-supported efforts in community-based planning to address barriers to coastal resilience and prioritize projects for 3 barrier island municipalities on Topsail Island (North Topsail Beach, Surf City, & Topsail Beach) in 2022, and the Towns of Burgaw and Holly Ridge in 2024-facilitated community outreach and engagement with Community Action Teams and the public-refined project descriptions and prioritized projects based on cost-effectiveness, community support, estimated timeline, potential funding source, and type of solution (i.e, nature-based, non-structural, policy, etc.)-developed robust Risk and Vulnerability Assessments and actionable Project PortfoliosNorth Carolina Regions Innovating for Strong Economies and Environment (RISE)- 2022-provided technical support for three five-county regions in eastern North Carolina (Upper Coastal Plain, Kerr-Tar, Lumber River) and assisted communities in identifying actions to reduce risk to climate hazards, enhance resiliency planning efforts, and apply for grant funding-scheduled and facilitated monthly stakeholder meetings, worked directly with local leaders, conducted literature review and research, created promotional material on Canva, ran logistics and facilitated public workshops-wrote Vulnerability Assessment report describing past problems and future risks associated with extreme weather events -identified priority projects and strategies for communities that reduce the risks associated with extreme weather events and enhance regional resilience, including detailed implementation steps and potential funding sources-finalized report deliverables-presented at the North Carolina APA Conference in September 2022 on lessons learned from planning for climate resilience at a multi-county scale
