WORK HISTORY
Orise Fellow Climate and Health Analyst @Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Atlanta, GA, US
As the CDC Heat Coordinator, I have organized and synthesized heat efforts with intra-agency offices and external partners, such as the White House, FEMA, NOAA, and NIHHIS. I not only guided project development, but I ensured all stakeholders were apprised of each other\'s activities to avoid duplication. I accomplished this by creating and updating a landscaping analysis of heat initiatives and to set priority items. This information was disseminated through biweekly meetings that I lead for senior leadership. I’ve also worked to improve the Heat and Health Tracker. This publicly accessible tool processes over 20 indicators across various datasets to inform heat exposure and burden across the United States. Currently, I am working to add maps of air conditioning usage, worker health data, and the incorporation of non-contiguous United States geographies to the Heat and Health Tracker.Within the Climate and Health Program, I authored an updated summary of the health effects, resources, and adaptation examples of CDC’s Climate and Health Program’s CRSCI recipients, titled “Preparing for the Regional Health Impacts of Climate Change in the United States”. I was also a key figure in drafting the revised BRACE Implementation Guidance, specifically as an author for the Take Action chapter and as a general technical author. Not only did I vet and incorporate 400+ references, but I was also the sole writer, editor, and designer for the 16 supplementary materials found in the revised BRACE Implementation Guidance. Further, I gained valuable experience working with our Climate-Ready States and Cities Initiative grantees. I consulted on numerous grant projects and provided technical support as needed. Chiefly, I was the primary point of contact for Florida State University grant) and the Wisconsin Department of Health grant).
