About Julia Blackmon
This year I am participating in a year of focused study on protest music and cultural identity, sponsored by the Thomas J. Watson fellowship. My time at Rhodes College was spent writing music, learning audio engineering skills, competing with the Rhodes mock trial team, and leading a research team focused on cognitive biases. I majored in psychology, minored in music, and completed a certificate in music industry studies with a concentration in content production. I was a leader within the Mike Curb Institute for Music where I coordinated concerts, interviewed artists with the Beyond Beale podcast, and established the Curb Songwriter\'s Night event series. Off-campus, I interned at the Shelby County Public Defender\'s Office, worked with Grammy award-winning producer Boo Mitchell at Royal Studios, and shadowed Matt Qualls as he recorded, mixed, and mastered projects by local musicians at Easley McCain recording. In 2020, I co-founded a not-for-profit group called Austin Artists for Change. I hope to apply my background in psychology and law to like-minded organizations in the future.
