Julia Amponsah-Gilder is an accomplished and dynamic educator with a proven track record of educational leadership. Currently serving as the Director of Student Assessment and the District TestCoordinator (DTC) at the largest school district in Texas, HoustonIndependent School District (HISD), Julia plays a pivotal role as a liaison between the district and the Texas Education Agency (TEA).Julia\'s journey in education began as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher at the elementary level, where she excelled and showcased her exceptional leadership abilities. This led to her advancement into district administration as an Assessment Program Administrator, drawing on her expertise gained as a former Staff Development Coordinator. Her remarkable achievements have earned her recognition as a repeat presenter at the esteemed Texas Assessment Conference in Austin, TX, and a standing TEA District Advisory Committee (DAC) member.Known for her profound insights and comprehensive knowledge, Julia actively contributes to discussions on various topics related to the administration of the Texas student assessment program, test security, assessment design, and curriculum impact. She has also collaborated with the Council of Greater City Schools (CGCS) to champion the cause of urban schools and advocate for inner-city students through legislative efforts, research initiatives, and media relations.Julia\'s exceptional leadership abilities were acknowledged district-wide by former HISD Superintendent, Dr. Terry Grier, who commended her transformative work in revitalizing the Student Assessment department after assuming the role of DTC.
