My current role as the documentarian-in-residence with the city of Raleigh requires a significant amount of community engagement and research. I am working directly with underserved communities to tell their own stories through oral histories, vernacular photos and ephemera to add depth to stories that are not reflected in the archives. This endeavor requires developing relationships, deep listening and thoughtful communication that includes a series of workshops to nurture and empower community members to not only explore archives but to also collect the important archival work within their own families and communities.
