About Judith Frauman

I leverage the analytical and quantitative skills that I honed as an engineer to attain successful evidence-based decision-making in the environmental sector. A thirst for knowledge and an interest in melding technology with the environment, I completed a GIS (Geographical Information Systems) Specialization certification covering geospatial and environmental analysis; remote sensing and imagery; ModelBuilder; design and quality; Spatial Analyst; and spatial statistics. For many years I worked as a quality engineer in the manufacturing sector, using data and technical know-how to solve problems, including data harmonization. I applied proactive thinking and statistical methods to help prevent problems from starting. As engaging as that career was, I was compelled to pursue a new direction that would give me a greater sense of purpose. That new path was to apply my critical-thinking skills toward finding solutions to climate change and the environment. Not one to shy away from a challenge, my journey began by attending Imperial College London, a top tier environmental master’s program, where I completed an MSc in Environmental Technology. More than just a great education, I met people from every continent but Antarctica, basked in the history of the United Kingdom, and gained a new appreciation for British pubs and sticky toffee pudding. Building on my engineering background and equipped with a solid environmental education which covered the standard curriculum plus bioenergy, carbon capture and storage, carbon sequestration, and sustainable agriculture, I’ve accumulated a portfolio of experience that includes: completing a GIS (geographical information systems) analysis to locate vulnerable river segments in Oregon, created to assist U.S. Congress in deciding which freshwater bodies to designate with protection status; forecasting the carbon sequestration potential in a plot of land for an organization doing reforestation in Brazil; conducting research and writing narration for a virtual reality (VR) project that takes viewers around the globe exploring the intricate connections of the food-energy-water nexus; the project has evolved into a non-profit, where I am one of the founding trustees.

Experience

  1. Board Trustee

    Nexus Vision

    Jan 2018 — Present

Collaborate with team creating a virtual reality (VR) experience to engage the public in environmental issues. Original project has evolved into a nascent charity (non-profit) with the goal of providing public education on environmental issues through the use of audiovisual media. Researched case studies on the food-energy-water nexus for VR project, seeking examples that demonstrated an imbalance in the nexus leading to ecosystem degradation; condensed research into concise, clear narrations. Investigate funding options; contribute to non-profit’s strategic development.
